Creamy Melon Seed Smoothie

Creamy Melon Seed Smoothie

Did you know that 100g of melon seeds contain around 28g of protein? They’re also rich in healthy fats, magnesium, zinc and iron, making them a powerhouse ingredient for energy, muscle repair and overall vitality.

Melon seeds are incredibly nutritious and are a common base for many dishes across West Africa and the Caribbean.

I love adding melon seeds to smoothies because they blend in beautifully without overpowering the flavour. Think of them as a creamy, nutrient-rich addition rather than the main character.

Instead of using protein powders, which are highly processed and stripped of important components like fibre, antioxidants, phytonutrients and healthy fats, opt for watermelon, pumpkin or melon seeds. They all contain around 28–30g of protein per 100g.

Ingredients (Serves 1)

  • 1–2 frozen bananas

  • 5–8 nour dates, or 3–4 medjool dates (pitted)

  • 50g melon seeds

  • Small handful of your favourite nuts (almonds, cashews, hazelnuts or walnuts work well)

  • 1½ cups water or coconut water

  • A few drops of vanilla extract (optional)

Instructions

  1. Add all ingredients into a high-speed blender.

  2. Blend until silky smooth and creamy.

  3. Pour into a glass, serve with ice, and enjoy immediately.

Tip: For an extra boost, add a pinch of cinnamon or nutmeg. It blends beautifully with the creaminess of the banana and melon seeds.
